Let’s have a heart-to-heart today.
You know, as a gym owner and someone who lives and breathes fitness, it’s easy for me to think that stepping into a gym and starting a workout routine is a piece of cake. After all, I’m there six days a week because I love it, and it’s my job.
But today, I want to address those of you out there who might be in one of these categories:
1. You gained some weight during the summer.
2. You stopped hitting the gym consistently.
3. You know you need to kickstart a workout routine, but you’re not quite sure where or how to begin.
If any of these resonate with you, I want you to know something important: You’re not alone, and there’s no need to be hard on yourself.
Let’s dissect what might be causing your hesitation. More often than not, it boils down to one detrimental belief: “I’m not good enough.”
Here’s a lesson I’ve gleaned from my studies in mindset and psychology: When something doesn’t feel good, it’s because it’s rooted in an untrue belief.
So, even if you must muster every ounce of courage to walk into that gym and start working out again, there might be a voice in your head whispering that people will judge you, that you won’t be able to keep up, or that you need to “get in better shape first” before diving in.
I won’t label these thoughts as excuses because they’re very real obstacles that many folks grapple with these days.
But remember this: None of these beliefs are true.
What’s true is that you ARE good enough, and you CAN do this.
Especially when you find a supportive, non-judgmental environment to do it in. An environment where people, just like you, once felt unsure when they started. But they took that leap. They took action, and we all know action generates momentum, and ultimately, results.
It’s not rocket science, but it can feel intimidating, and that’s perfectly okay.
So, if you find yourself in this situation, understand where your doubts originate, and recognize that these doubts stem from beliefs that are far from the truth.
If they’re not true, then the opposite must be true: You ARE good enough, and you CAN do this.
Remember, results are earned, and they only come from taking action – even the tiniest of steps you can take today, or quite literally, right now.
So, what’s your plan? What’s that one thing you can decide to do TODAY that, in a few weeks or months, you’ll look back on and say, “I’m really happy I did THAT”?
Whatever it is, do it today. Your future self will be eternally grateful.
